Moschino’s 40th Anniversary Show: A look into the four appointed stylists ready to takeover the runway

Moschino’s 40th Anniversary show is set to take place during Milan Fashion Week. As a tribute to the brand’s founder, Franco Moschino, SS24 will see a newly designed collection that plays on its classic motifs.
A brand that is known for its intelligent storytelling, bold prints, and humorous spirit, there is much anticipation for this latest collection.
Taking place on 21st September 2023, this will be the first show since the recent resignation of creative director, Jeremy Scott.
The brand will instead debut collaboration with four stylists, with ten looks each, that will come together to celebrate the creation of the brand in 1983.
Carlyne Gerf De Dudzeele
Despite being born in Saint Tropez, Dudzeele is a Parisian through and through. Her work champions the simplicity and elegance of Paris’ iconic fashion.
Styling some of the most notable fashion magazine covers of all time, including the November 1988 edition of American Vogue, she is a veteran when it comes to styling haute couture.
Dudzeele’s ability to effortlessly fuse streetwear with French haute couture during the eighties was way ahead of its time and provided inspiration to modern streetwear brand’s such as Off White.
It’s key to note that Dudzeele is a recurring collaborator and close friend of Jeremy Scott, meaning she is sure to continue to add accents of his work into her looks.
Katie Grand
British stylist, journalist, and creative mogul, Katie Grand was born in Yorkshire and raised in Birmingham.
Grand made her name as fashion director of the then up and coming indie magazine, Dazed & Confused.
Her multifaceted talent within journalism and styling as well as her varied past explorations from knitwear to marketing at one of the world’s top fashion institutions Central Saint Martins makes her involvement in Moschino’s 40th anniversary show ever more exciting.
For over 10 years, Grand has collaborated with Marc Jacobs - presenting bold and daring ensembles that she is sure to bring to her Moschino looks.
Her extensive experience with a variety of luxury fashion houses means she has the gift of coupling the heritage and luxury fashion with what Alex Bilmes of Esquire so rightly describes as the “spirit of the now.”
Despite her successes across such a wide range of platforms, Grand’s life has not been plain sailing with the recent passing of her late husband, legendary bassist of English rock band, Pulp. Despite this, she continues to flourish in all aspects of her career and paves the way for British youths to follow in her footsteps.
Grand’s journey onto the scene is inspiring for budding Northern creatives. According to Grand, “you can do it all”.
Gabriella Kerafa-Johnson
Moschino has always been a brand to defy boundaries through its quirky adaptations of luxury clothing as well as in its introduction of its Cheap and Chic line to promote affordable, high-quality clothing - forgoing the inherent elitist nature of the haute-couture industry.
The appointment of Gabriella Kerafa-Johnson for their inaugural show without creative director Jeremy Scott depicts the brand's efforts to continue to disrupt luxury storytelling.
Kerafa-Johnson has had her fair share of seminal moments, making history by becoming the first Black woman to style a cover of Vogue in 2021 and utilising her platform to champion blackness by continuing to centre powerful black women in high positions in her styling portfolio including Kamala Harris and Serena Williams.
Kerafa-Johnson was put under frankly disgusting scrutiny by Kanye West’s (Ye) disrespectful shaming of her on Instagram when she rightly called him out for presenting “White Lives Matter” t-shirts during his Yeezy fashion show at Paris Fashion Week in October 2022. This just exemplifies the way in which black women are often ridiculed on social media, particularly within elitist spaces such as high fashion.
Through her intersectional and individual experiences as a black woman, Kerafa-Johnson is coming to rattle the luxury fashion industry and we are all here for it.
Lucia Liu
Executive deputy editor and fashion director of T Magazine China, Lucia Liu is another hyphenated fashion creative that goes beyond the realm of solely fashion styling.
Brains, talent and beauty, Liu won a place to study English Literature at university before switching to study fashion design - a choice that has allowed her to become one of the most talked about stylists not only in China but also internationally with her work featuring in a wide range of fashion-forward publications such as i-D and Harper’s Bazaar (of which she was previously the style director for their Chinese publication).
This diverse collection of powerful women within fashion styling but also executive spaces reminds us all of the diversity of the brand and how it remains quintessential to the colour and vibrancy of the haute couture industry.
