Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has been captivating Swifties worldwide for over a year and a half. Fans have fully immersed themselves in the experience, from making friendship bracelets to spending months finding the perfect outfit.
With social media buzzing with creative fashion ideas for those lucky enough to bag show tickets, it can be overwhelming to choose what to wear. Each of Taylor’s albums has a specific style and theme - which only makes it harder to choose.
In part one of this series, we’re exploring outfit ideas for the first half of her eras. So, if you’re stuck for ideas don’t worry because Darling has you covered.
Taylor Swift
Let’s start at the beginning with Taylor Swift’s debut album, Taylor Swift.
This album reflects Taylor’s youth and country beginnings, making it a comfortable and fairly easy option. You can recreate many of these looks with clothes found in second-hand stores or even in your
wardrobe. Our favourite outfit for this era is a white summer dress with cowboy boots and a cowboy hat.
To enhance the look, style your hair with tight curls to mimic Swift’s natural hair from that time. Denim is also a staple for this era- think denim skirts, shorts, or jeans paired with a white top. Green and turquoise hues are associated with this album, so a summer dress in
these colours with a butterfly print or classic 2000s patterns would also be perfect. Butterfly jewellery or hair clips would be the cherry on top for an outfit from this era.
Fearless
Fearless, continues the country style but it has its twists with its abundance of gold and yellow. A gold sequin or tassel dress is ideal, reminiscent of Swift’s countless tour outfits.
Pair it with cowboy boots, gold jewellery, and lots of glitter for the perfect look. If dresses aren’t your thing,
gold-flared trousers with a cute crop top are an excellent alternative. Fearless is also known for
its iconic music videos.
A standout look is the DIY recreation of Swift’s outfit from the ‘You Belong With Me’ music video. All you need to do is write ‘Junior Jewels’ and your friend’s names or Taylor Swift albums on a white t-shirt just like the original. Complete the outfit with tartan PJ
pants or lounge trousers and fake glasses.
Speak Now
Clad in purple and embracing fantasy, Speak Now offers a variety of outfit options. A simple purple top or puffy dress paired with gold accessories is perfect for this era.
If you want something more specific, dresses like Swift’s iconic purple dress from the original album are
surprisingly easy to find second-hand or online. During the Speak Now set on the Eras Tour we see Swift wearing extravagant gowns so if you’re looking for something a bit more dramatic, you could consider a second-hand prom dress or gown in purple or light pink. If you choose this route, just make sure you’re mindful of the dress size and those around you at the show.
Red
If the cowboy style isn’t for you, Red might be more your speed. Taylor Swift's Red album marked her transition into pop, characterised by a variety of iconic looks. An easy option is to recreate the ’22’ outfit from the eras tour, where we see Swift wearing a t-shirt with various catchy slogans like “Who’s Taylor Swift anyway?”.
You can find these t-shirts easily on Etsy or you could even DIY it yourself. Pair this with black shorts and a hat for a complete look.
For a more unique idea, you could recreate Swift’s outfit from the 'I Bet You Think About Me' music video by wearing a red puffy dress, a red flower crown, and red gloves.
Alternatively, you can channel classic Red-era looks seen by Swift with a striped t-shirt, black shorts, and red lips.
1989
The 1989 era blends simplicity with a touch of challenge when it comes to finding the perfect outfit. Sure, there are the classic metallic skater skirts and seagull print tops, but if those bring back too much teenage angst for you, we have some alternative options that are both fashionable and free of memories from our youth.
To elevate the original looks from the era, you can opt for a sparkly skater skirt paired with a contrasting bralette, echoing Taylor’s updated 1989 Eras Tour outfits. For an album cover-inspired look, pair a cute white top with a blue skater or midi skirt. 1989never fails to make you want to dance, so any light blue or silver sequin shift dress or skirt would be perfect to not only bring this album to life but to ‘Shake it Off’. To complete your look, add a paper aeroplane or seagull necklace to tie everything together.
To fully bring your era tour outfit together, consider adding essentials like the classic friendship bracelets, the iconic 13 on your hand, and cowboy boots.
And if none of these earlier albums resonate with you, stay tuned for our next article, where we’ll cover outfit ideas for the second half of Swift’s very different and unique eras.
So, whether you’re drawn to Taylor’s country roots, her fairytale fantasies, or her pop evolution, there’s an outfit for every fan to feel connected to their favourite album.
